DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS, MACINTOSH INSTALLATION & PLAYBACK RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Drag the HOT LEATHER 2 or HOT LEATHER 2/PPC (for Power Macs only) icon from the CD-ROM onto your hard disk and run it from there for best performance.
2. Before playing HOT LEATHER 2 for the first time, you must install QuickTime 2.5. included on this disc (if you do not already have it installed).
3. TURN OFF AppleTalk (and any NETWORKING) from within the Chooser.
4. TURN OFF Virtual Memory (under Control Panels, Memory). If you are using
RAM Doubler¬ (an extension from Connectix) or Virtual Memory (an option
found on the Memory Control Panel), for the best performance, you should
disable them and restart your Macintosh before playing HOT LEATHER 2.
5. Turn off unnecessary or unused Extensions and Control Panels. They use
up valuable memory and are known to cause conflicts if too many or all are run
simultaneously. Use Extensions Manager or other similar Startup Controller to
disable unwanted Extensions and Control Panels, or simply move them out of
the System:Extensions folder to a new folder named "Extensions (Disabled)".
6. Restart your Macintosh.
The "HOT LEATHER 2" application is a "fat binary" and runs on all Macintosh computers.
If you have a Power Mac, the startup file "HOT LEATHER 2/PPC" has been compiled for Native Power Mac (PowerPC) machines.
HOT LEATHER 2 RECOMMENDED MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
68030 (or better) CPU
8 MB RAM or better
13 inch Monitor or better
256 Color Display or better, Thousands of Colors
System 7.0 or higher
Double Speed CD-ROM Drive or better
QuickTime 2.0
PERFORMANCE COMMENTS:
Screen transitions and sprite graphics animate best at 256 (8 bit) colors,
while QuickTime movies appear best at "Thousands" (16 bit) or "Millions" (32
bit) color. So the best trade-off is to set the monitor at "Thousands". HOT LEATHER 2
is designed for a 640 x 480 pixel monitor display. Setting your monitor larger
only uses up your system's VRAM and actually causes the imagery to appear
smaller on your screen. So, a monitor setting of 640 x 480 at Thousands of
colors is the best trade-off. Setting at Millions tends to slow down some of the
sprite effects and transitions become sluggish.
We recommend that you allocate the maximum memory available for HOT LEATHER 2.
To do this, select "About This Macintosh. . ." from the Apple Menu. The
amount listed under "Largest Unused Block" is your computer's unused
memory. Set the "Preferred" memory size of the HOT LEATHER 2 application on
your hard drive to approximately 100 K below the "Largest Unused Block"
value. To do this, highlight the HOT LEATHER 2 application on your hard drive,
select "Get Info" from the File Menu, and set the "Preferred Size".
For example, if the largest unused block of memory is 7,267 K,
then set the preferred size of the HOT LEATHER 2 application to 7,167 K.
